Bodmin moor in blue evening light
For me, the best part of photography is spending time in the places I photograph. I sometimes simply visit a new location, take photos and leave, but hardly ever. I revisit locations all the time. Even if I return in similar light and weather conditions, there is always something new to take my interest, either in the place itself or photographing the same subject in a different way. In this way, I connect with my surroundings and photography deepens the intimacy.
Living in rural Cornwall, most of my images are of moorland and the agricultural or woodland landscapes around the moors.
This is my hobby, and I am learning all the time. I still have a lot to learn about processing photos using software (Lightroom) and I am new to publishing photos on a blog. I learned the basics of photography on a very old DSLR with standard kit lenses. After a few years, I upgraded my kit once I understood what I was looking for.
I give myself plenty of time outdoors without my camera. It is sometimes more restful without it and I often find inspiration for a photo when I am not actively trying to get one. Something will draw me in, and I will make a mental note to return to the location with my camera. I often get ideas for a theme or series of photos at these times too.
My only rule is to enjoy my photography by connecting with the places I visit. I hope that comes across in my images and brings you pleasure too.
